What is Freemasonry

Freemasonry is one of the oldest non-religious, fraternities in the world. This description intents to define the meaning of Freemasonry as it is practiced by the Grand Lodge of Greece which administrates the Lodges of Greece and to answer in some misconceptions.

Freemasonry is a philosophic, progressive and philanthropic organization that aims to the spiritual and intellectual improvement of its members through self-awareness, search of truth, solidarity and morality. Members are educated in these principles through the use of traditions and symbols of ancient operative stonemasons as allegorical guides called Labours.

Membership requirements

Applicants that may qualify as members must be males (of any race or religion), must be of good morals and reputation and above all must believe in God.
